Found a 100-tenge coin with a dog, bird, leopard, book or unfamiliar inscription? Some were made for everyday circulation; others were sold as collector coins. The design alone does not tell you its value: first identify the name, year and version.
This guide covers commemorative and themed 100-tenge coins in base metals issued from 2020 to 20 September 2026. They are often called anniversary coins, although animals and national traditions do not always mark an anniversary. Silver and gold 100-tenge coins are excluded. Dates, specifications and mintages have been checked against National Bank records. The illustrations are official National Bank images.
Identify an unusual 100-tenge coin by its design
Start with the year and the inscription around the design. Dogs, golden eagles and leopards appear in several series, so a similar subject does not always mean the same coin.
| Design or inscription | Issue to look for | Distinguishing features |
|---|---|---|
| Dog, sighthound, QUMAI TAZY | «Жеті қазына» (Jeti Qazyna), 2020 | Slender hunting dog; the series name JETI QAZYNA |
| Man, woman, horse, golden eagle, book or rifle | The other six Jeti Qazyna coins, 2020 | JETI QAZYNA and a separate name for each design |
| Deer, mask, curled-up or winged leopard | «Сакский стиль» (Saka Style), 2022 | Stylised ancient ornaments; five designs |
| Saiga, argali, snow leopard, bustard or falcon | «Животный мир Казахстана» (Wildlife of Kazakhstan), 2025 | AQBÓKEN, ARQAR, BARYS, DÝADAQ or SUŃQAR |
| Constitution and the number 30 | 30th anniversary of the Constitution, 2025 | Small two-tone coin; face value of 100 tenge |
| Swan, deer or golden eagle on a large single-colour coin | AQQÝ, BUǴY or BÚRKIT | Collector issues from 2021, 2020 and 2022 respectively |
| Two dogs and a space theme | «Белка. Стрелка» (Belka and Strelka), 2020 | Large single-colour coin, distinct from QUMAI TAZY |
| Portrait and a name | An anniversary issue honouring a person | Check the name: Abai, Zhuban, Zhambyl, Khadzhimukan, Roza, Akhmet, Talgat, Mukhtar, Manshuk or Temirbek |
Leopard 100-tenge coins: how do the 2022 and 2025 designs differ?
The 2022 Saka Style series has two leopards: one curled into a ring and one with wings. The 2025 BARYS coin shows a spotted snow leopard with a long raised tail. These are three different designs. Keep their mintages and versions separate when comparing values.
Which 100-tenge coin has a bird, eagle or “rooster”?
Birds can be hard to identify from the design. Jeti Qazyna includes QYRAN BÚRKIT, a hunting golden eagle. Wildlife of Kazakhstan includes SUŃQAR, a falcon, and DÝADAQ, a bustard. If you are looking for a “100-tenge coin with a rooster”, read the inscription first: it may be the bustard. The large single-colour BÚRKIT coin from 2022 is a separate golden eagle issue.
Small and two-tone, or large and single-colour?
Commemorative 100-tenge coins made for mass circulation have the familiar specifications: 24.5 mm and 6.45 g. Their outer ring and central disc are different colours. These coins were issued for everyday use and can turn up in change.
Many single-colour nickel silver issues measure 31 mm and weigh 11.17 g. Collector versions in cupronickel often measure 33 mm and 15 g. Two coins with the same name and a face value of 100 tenge can therefore be different versions with different mintages. Check the specifications for the coin below.
UNC stands for uncirculated. BU stands for brilliant uncirculated, a higher-quality finish. These terms describe how the issue was made; they do not mean a coin that has been carried in a wallet is still free of scratches.

2026: as of 20 September
No new commemorative 100-tenge base-metal issues for 2026 were found in the National Bank material reviewed.
What are commemorative 100-tenge coins worth, and which are rare?
Their spending value is 100 tenge. Their collector value depends on the issue, version and condition. An unusual design does not make a coin rare: Jeti Qazyna, Saka Style and Wildlife of Kazakhstan had circulation mintages of hundreds of thousands or millions per design.
Compare completed sales of matching coins: the same metal, finish, condition and packaging. An asking price does not show what a buyer actually paid. A collector BU version’s mintage does not apply to a similar UNC coin found in change.
Where can I buy or sell unusual 100-tenge coins?
You can buy and sell coins in our Telegram chat. Include the name, year, condition and asking price, with clear photographs of both sides and the edge. Show the packaging too, if you still have it. For a common circulation coin, factor in delivery costs.
Can I spend commemorative 100-tenge coins?
Yes. According to the National Bank, commemorative and collector coins are accepted at face value in Kazakhstan. A 100-tenge coin pays for 100 tenge. Any collector value is not taken into account when it is spent.
If a cashier does not recognise the coin, point out its denomination, year and issue name. The National Bank also states that banks accept these coins for account deposits, changing into other denominations and exchange.
Questions about coins found in change
What are the new 2026 animal 100-tenge coins?
The five Wildlife of Kazakhstan coins were issued on 30 December 2025. You may first receive one in change in 2026. That does not make it a separate 2026 issue: check the year on the coin.
Is an unusual design a minting error?
A mask, winged leopard or unfamiliar inscription may be part of the intended design. Compare the coin with the official image of the same issue. Scratches and dents acquired in circulation are not minting errors. To assess a possible error, you need photographs of both sides, plus the weight and diameter.
Should I clean a coin before selling it?
Do not polish it or use abrasives: cleaning marks can reduce its collector value. Store it separately and hold it by the edge.
Why is my coin missing from the list?
Check its year, denomination and metal. This guide covers base-metal issues from 2020 onwards. Older coins also turn up in change, while silver and gold 100-tenge coins belong to other issues. The 2025 “80 Years of the Great Victory” circulation coin has a face value of 200 tenge, so it is not included.
