ANNIVERSARY DATES OF THE CAPITAL - KAZAKHSTAN

The 'Anniversary dates of the Capital' coin series highlights the significant evolution of Kazakhstan's capital city and its architectural changes throughout history. The movement of Kazakhstan's capital from Almaty to Akmola was officially sanctioned by the Supreme Council on July 6, 1994. Akmola was selected for its strategic geographical position, industrial potential, and the availability of land for future urban development. The relocation was finalized on December 10, 1997, and in 1998, the city was renamed Astana, reflecting its new status.
