The collectible coin “Al-Farabi” was issued in Kazakhstan as part of the “Portraits on Banknotes” series and is dedicated to the great Eastern thinker whose portrait previously appeared on the obverse of the 1 tenge banknote of the 1993 issue. The coin has a face value of 500 tenge, is made of .9999 gold, and weighs 7.78 g. In the center of the obverse is the State Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the denomination shown below; around the circumference are inscriptions with the country’s name in Kazakh and Russian, as well as elements of the national ornament and the logo of the National Bank. The reverse features a fragment of the banknote with a portrait of Al-Farabi, supplemented by his name, the year of minting, and the indication of the metal and weight. The edge is reeded.
