PORTRAITS ON BANKNOTES - KAZAKHSTAN

BANKNOTE PORTRAITS - KAZAKHSTAN

The first banknotes of Independent Kazakhstan were issued on November 15, 1993, featuring portraits of prominent figures in history. These included the scientist al-Farabi, poet Suinbai Aronuly, musician Kurmangazy Sagyrbayev, scientist Shokan Ualikhanov, and philosopher Abai Kunanbayev, alongside notable leaders such as Abulkhair Khan and Abylai Khan. Although the 'Portraits' series was eventually phased out due to advancements in security technology, their legacy continues through the 'Banknote Portraits' series of collectible silver and gold coins. Notably, the 'Shokan' coin has made its way to the International Space Station, thanks to numismatist Anuarbek Balakhmetov.
