The 500 tenge silver coin of Kazakhstan, struck in .925 silver and weighing 31.10 g, is dedicated to Khoja Nasreddin, a well-known character of Eastern folklore and the hero of instructive, humorous, and satirical tales. The obverse features the State Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the denomination, and elements of traditional national ornamentation. The reverse depicts Khoja Nasreddin riding a donkey toward an Eastern bazaar; the emblem of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the year of minting are also shown nearby. The image of Nasreddin is associated with resourcefulness, wit, and the ability to emerge victorious from the most difficult situations. His stories, which became widespread throughout the countries of the Muslim East, were passed down for centuries through both oral and written tradition.
