The National Bank Launches New Commemorative Coins: “BURABAY”, “SYǴANAQ”, and “35 Years of the CIS”

The National Bank of Kazakhstan has introduced a new collection of commemorative coins. The Natural Treasures of Kazakhstan series has been expanded with the “BURABAY” coin, while the Ancient Cities of Kazakhstan series now features “SYǴANAQ”. In addition, the Outstanding Events and People series is complemented by the “35 Years of the CIS” commemorative coin.

Burabay is one of Kazakhstan’s best-known natural destinations. Surrounded by pine forests, crystal-clear lakes, and impressive granite rock formations, the region is celebrated for its pristine landscapes and fresh air. Iconic landmarks such as Okzhetpes and Zhumbaktas have become symbols of Burabay. Thanks to its outstanding natural beauty, rich heritage, and numerous local legends, the area is recognized as one of the country’s most remarkable attractions and a favorite destination for visitors.

The “BURABAY” coin is struck in 925 sterling silver and incorporates color printing together with an interference rainbow coating. It weighs 31.1 grams, measures 45 × 30 mm, is produced in proof quality, has a face value of 1,000 tenge, and is issued in a limited mintage of 2,000 pieces.

Syǵanaq was one of the largest medieval cities of the Great Steppe, located within present-day Kazakhstan. Between the 13th and 15th centuries, it ranked among the region’s leading centers of trade, craftsmanship, and culture along the Great Silk Road. Today, the archaeological site of Syǵanaq is regarded as one of Kazakhstan’s most significant historical monuments, reflecting the development of medieval urban civilization across the Great Steppe.

The “SYǴANAQ” coin is struck in 925 sterling silver with gilding. It weighs 24 grams, has a 37 mm diameter, is minted in proof quality, carries a face value of 1,000 tenge, and has a limited mintage of 1,000 pieces.

On December 8, 2026, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) celebrates the 35th anniversary of its establishment. The regional international organization was founded in 1991 to strengthen cooperation among several former Soviet republics. Today, CIS member states work together in the fields of economics, humanitarian affairs, culture, law, and many other areas while coordinating issues of intergovernmental importance. The organization's activities are based on the principles of sovereign equality and mutual respect for the independence of its member states.

The “35 Years of the CIS” commemorative coin is struck in 925 sterling silver using color printing technology. The coin weighs 31.1 grams, has a diameter of 38.61 mm, is produced in proof quality, has a face value of 1,000 tenge, and is issued in a limited mintage of 1,000 pieces.
