Kazakhstan to issue AQYQ silver coin

1 minute

The National Bank of Kazakhstan will issue the “AQYQ” collectible coin as part of the “Magic Symbols” series. Sales in the National Bank’s online store will begin on October 27, 2026.

The coin’s name refers to the Kazakh word “aqyq,” which is used for semiprecious stones from the chalcedony group that are used in jewelry and decorative items.

The coin’s design features elements of traditional Kazakh jewelry art, including granulation, an ornament on the reverse side, and a carnelian inlay. There is an opening at the top of the coin for a chain or cord, so it can be worn as jewelry.

The coin is made of .925 silver and includes a carnelian insert. It weighs 20 grams, has a diameter of 33 mm, and carries a face value of 1,000 tenge. Its minting quality is designated as “antique silver.” The total mintage will be 5,000 pieces.

The National Bank also reminded the public that these coins must be accepted at face value throughout the country. They can be used for payments, deposited into bank accounts, and exchanged or broken into change at banks.

The coins were produced at the Kazakhstan Mint.
