The 500 ₸ silver proof coin, weighing 31.10 g, is dedicated to Almaty, one of the most important historic cities of Kazakhstan. Its design is based on a 13th-century dirham associated with the mint of this major trading center on the Great Silk Road. The image of the ancient coin highlights Almaty’s importance as a crossroads of caravan routes, crafts, and monetary circulation. This issue draws attention to the region’s rich numismatic heritage and to the city’s role in the economic and cultural life of medieval Central Asia. Struck in .925 silver, the coin reflects the connection between modern Kazakh minting and historical traditions.
