The 500 ₸ silver coin, weighing 24.00 g, is dedicated to the asa tayak, one of the traditional Kazakh musical instruments. It is a percussion and idiophone instrument in the form of a decorated staff or rod with metal pendants and rings that produce sound when moved or shaken. Its timbre is bright and rhythmically expressive, which is why the asa tayak was used in folk musical practice as well as in rituals and festive performances. This issue reflects an interest in Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage and introduces a distinctive part of the national musical tradition, in which not only melodic but also rhythmic instruments play an important role. Struck in .925 silver, the coin conveys the significance of the asa tayak as a notable element of Kazakh musical culture.
